University of Malta is the leading higher education institution in Malta and its structures are in line with the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education area. Lying at the cross-roads of the Mediterranean, UM has been, over its 400-year history, the hub for international academic exchange on the island.

The Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering commissioned a Learning System by FESTO Didactic, which is the first of its kind here in Malta. The system, which is called Cyber-Physical Factory (CP Factory), illustrates the practical implementation of digital production.

The CP Factory reflects the new developments in Industry 4.0 and networked production offering a modular Smart Factory system for teaching and research purposes. The learning system includes not only the assembly line, but also different examples of production such as lean production, logistics and quality assurance. The learning system is based around flexibly combinable modular stations, which are then used to realise different application modules.
