Waste Anaesthetic Gases

Health care professionals who work in hospitals, operating rooms, dental offices and veterinary clinics, are potentially exposed to waste anaesthetic gases and are at risk of occupational illness.

The requirements for waste gases and toxic plume extraction is now embedded within HTM 02-01. In operating theatres, the waste gases will be extracted safely outside via the Anaesthetic Gas Scavenging System, however once the patient is in recovery he will still exhale waste gases.

To overcome the hazards of these waste gases, Vertical bedhead units can be extended to allow the incorporation of a fully insulated and self-contained extract duct.
